SCREEN GRABS: DIGITAL DIALECTIC AND NEW MEDIA THEORY

When I first started reading this article, I thought it was basically talk about how technology is taking over the word. Technology such as cell phones, camera’s, digital DVD players etc. “A screen grabs is a quick and dirty way to capture an image on the monitor, in order to save or print it. In many desktop computer systems, the screen grab is accomplished with a simple combination of keystrokes.”(Lunenfeld XV). In that quote I thought it captured the whole article, since it is talking about digital world. Computers now actually have touch screens. While reading the article I thought it was hard to grasp what Lunenfeld was explaining, but when reading the top quote, it just summarized he whole article.
THE CONDITION OF VIRTUALITY

I actually thought this article was interesting and all. It was confusing in the beginning when it first starts as “Virtuality is the condition millions of people now inhabit” (Hayes 69). What is that actually suppose to mean, that everyone inhabits some traits.

When I think of virtuality I think of computer, videos games etc. There are a lot of virtual games in the world that are very addictive. I remember when I was a child, not being aware of games, just normal sports, but not necessary videos games. When I was about 14 or 15 years old, I started becoming a big fan of Nintendo. Now there are a lot of gaming consoles out there that are virtual games.

Another virtual technology is now being appealing to homebuyers. I remember my older sister buying a townhouse; the realtor actually gave her a site that showed the house virtually.

Overall, I liked the article and it made me wonder how the virtual world is expanding. Soon I think we will have virtual school.

Essay

COPYRIGHT AS MYTH

BY: JESSICA LITMAN

Copyright was always an interested topic for me. I always wondered why such focus was on it. Well Littman brought up some interested topics in her essay. Copyright was always present, but some people choose to ignore it. I mean why should someone care who the actual work belongs to.

Copyright infringement is always present in our everyday life. Whether it is listening to music, communicating with people, reading books, just everyday activities. Copyright has become such a heated topic. Everything you do, you always have to watch out about what an individual might do. I always to think copyright only applied when it something was huge or important. But now people are suing each other over copyright infringement.

I thought the essay was interesting how Litman went in detail about what exactly copyright is, and define it an asking lawyers.
