I completely disagree with this article. None of those big companies are losing money, especially Microsoft. For example, when buying a new computer the chances are it automatically includes some kind of version of Windows. That means that whoever your processing computer manufacturer is, it has paid Microsoft the licensing fee already. Unfortunately, you are not even given an option of purchasing a computer without an Operating System, well most of the times. So if you decide to use an alternative OperatingSystem (like Linux or Solaris - distributed for free and having the same capabilities as Windows) Microsoft is getting paid anyways although you are not even using their product.
Piracy takes many different forms. Any time you physically copy something without a license it's piracy. People are distributing all kinds of software - not only music but programs like microsoft OS's like
XP and Vista, microsoft office, photoshop, etc. These programs are hundreds of dollars each. Compared to only 15$/cd, Microsoft and other software manufacturers are getting cheated out of enormous sums of money. I think even though Microsoft is losing profit due to the black market, they should make their products more affordable. Not every has hundred and hundreds of dollar to spend. Plus majority of the people who want to use Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc, are majority of students.
I found this article very interesting. I am not surprised the India has a wide variety of black markets. I think they should. I personally think this piracy is not that big of a deal. People are stilling buying computers and but are buying cheaper priced programs.

SCREEN GRABS: DIGITAL DIALECTIC AND NEW MEDIA THEORY
When I first started reading this article, I thought it was basically talk about how technology is taking over the word. Technology such as cell phones, camera’s, digital DVD players etc. “A screen grabs is a quick and dirty way to capture an image on the monitor, in order to save or print it. In many desktop computer systems, the screen grab is accomplished with a simple combination of keystrokes.”(Lunenfeld XV). In that quote I thought it captured the whole article, since it is talking about digital world. Computers now actually have touch screens. While reading the article I thought it was hard to grasp what Lunenfeld was explaining, but when reading the top quote, it just summarized he whole article.
THE CONDITION OF VIRTUALITY
I actually thought this article was interesting and all. It was confusing in the beginning when it first starts as “Virtuality is the condition millions of people now inhabit” (Hayes 69). What is that actually suppose to mean, that everyone inhabits some traits.
When I think of virtuality I think of computer, videos games etc. There are a lot of virtual games in the world that are very addictive. I remember when I was a child, not being aware of games, just normal sports, but not necessary videos games. When I was about 14 or 15 years old, I started becoming a big fan of Nintendo. Now there are a lot of gaming consoles out there that are virtual games.
Another virtual technology is now being appealing to homebuyers. I remember my older sister buying a townhouse; the realtor actually gave her a site that showed the house virtually.
Overall, I liked the article and it made me wonder how the virtual world is expanding. Soon I think we will have virtual school.

COPYRIGHT AS MYTH
BY: JESSICA LITMAN
Copyright was always an interested topic for me. I always wondered why such focus was on it. Well Littman brought up some interested topics in her essay. Copyright was always present, but some people choose to ignore it. I mean why should someone care who the actual work belongs to.
Copyright infringement is always present in our everyday life. Whether it is listening to music, communicating with people, reading books, just everyday activities. Copyright has become such a heated topic. Everything you do, you always have to watch out about what an individual might do. I always to think copyright only applied when it something was huge or important. But now people are suing each other over copyright infringement.
I thought the essay was interesting how Litman went in detail about what exactly copyright is, and define it an asking lawyers.

When old myths were new; the every-ending story
I think this was informative because I my self had personal believing that technology was coming to an end.
I thought it was true that myth surround the history of technology, which leads me to believe that everything has change. I also believe that one day computers and robots will run the whole world and human being will no longer be needed…Such as occupation.
I understand political economic pressures with the cultural content of meaningful myth lift us out of ordinary routine and designate us a special chosen people.
I actually thought we had better technology now then we did back in the day. I personally love the telegraph system because it enables us to be freer, and without it the world would literally be weird because we would not have a communication system and not know about each other’s problems in the world, or anything of that effect.
It is great to have a new technology for the wireless connection. I think that with our structures today with our telephone lines, it would be impossible for it to end.
Radios are the greatest invention alive due to the fact it brings entertainment and news.
Television is by far the greatest invention known to man. It not only gets us involved with the world it also enhance our ability to be well informed.
Myth surrounding technology is in some cases not true or believable due to the fact our current technology knowledge.
Cyberspace does have a lot to do with the myths of technology ending.
“Look from a distance at night, upon the board space it fills, and the majestic sweep of the searching light and it is as if the earth and ski were to transform by the immeasurable wands of colossal magicians and the superb dome of the structure that is the central jewel of the display is glowing as if bond with wreaths of stars. It is electricity!”(121)
In that it means at night it is hard to see the light that is upon us because of the glowing light that is called electricity.
The changes that worked for the progress of televison, telegraph, electrification, radio, would accomplish miracles

Doug Henwood, “Novelty.”; David Barboza,
This article is basically talking about how Americans are setting up companies in China, and pay them to play online games for them. And the Chinese people are working in bad conditions, and are getting paid small amounts for long hours for a company who can afford to pay them more. I thought this article was bad because of the poor working conditions that the Chinese people had to work in. And also that fact the people aren’t using online games as an amusement instead of a way of making money is shocking. I think that people who are to lazy to play there own games should not subscribe to these game sites. But then again I don’t want the people who are making money of this to lose their jobs so its an good thing and a bad thing if you look at it, and its hard to chose a side.

Technology
BY: VINCENT MOSCO
When I started reading the article about technology and the different myths that are out there I could have cared less. I mean yes, technology is very important to us, in so many different ways, I mean, I’m using my apple Mac book right know. I love being in control of what Am doing, knowing what assignments I need to finish. Everything that is so practical is easy to access. The world is changing everyday and technology is changing with it.
Mosco talks about how we are confused when it comes to the different background about technology. Its like the unspoken of myths. “Cyberspace enthusiasts encourage us to think that we have reached the end of history, the end of geography, and the end of politics. Everything has changed. So we can apply the mute button to whatever has come before”. When I read that statement, I was like that is so right. I mean we never really look back to the start of technology. We never talk about the individuals who came up with is magic thing we call technology. We use it everyday, and yes, we do acknowledge some people like Bill Gates. But we rarely look at the founding fathers of technology.
“Consequently, we need to understand political economic pressures within the cultural context of meaningful myths that lifts us out of the day to day and designate us as a special, perhaps even a chosen, people. Put simply, we want to believe that our era is unique in transforming the world as we have known it.” (Mosco 118).
In that statement it gives an insightful look at what the world is all about. It’s pretty funny looking at all the different ways of understanding life in general. That quote made me think how computers would one day looked upon as old myth.
Overall, I thought the article was well written, and brought up a lot of the interesting facts.

Ecologies
What I have chosen for my technology ecology project is personal care service. That my dad and I started. It benefits the community by helping out the less fortunate people. People that are elderly, disabled and anyone who is in need of assistants.
Technology:
~ We deal with having to contribute to everyday things like filling out paper work in the computer.
~ We have a webpage to attract potential clients
~ We also visit people who need assistants with blood pressure monitoring etc.
~ Awlpcs uses technology to help anyone in need
Similarity:
~ Use technology to interact with clients
~ Use technology to help with heart monitor and blood pressure
~ Use technology to fill out paper work, and insurance
Community Contribution:
~ Helping anyone in need of assistance in person care
~ Making Prince William community more friendly environment
~ Making everyone as “united”

The New Yorker: What’s the trouble?
The article basically talked about a man who is name was Evan Mckinley a fit and strong man who had chest pains. Then the doctor as questions about Mckinley, felt his chest, took some tests and came up with the conclusion that Mckinley normal. Then dismissed Mckinley without even consider other problems, as to his chest pain.
This article, sum up everything that should be known about a doctor. I mean doctors are like everyone else, the judge their patient without even considering other possibilities.
The funny thing about this article is that the doctor who saw Mckinley was a man who did a lot of studies about doctors misdiagnoses. He stated “I missed it because my thinking was overly influenced by how healthy this man looked, and the absences of risk factors”. I actually feel sorry for Croskerry, when he stated that quote. He actually mad a mistake that could have ruined Mckinley ranger life.
You know what I give a lot of he props to doctors and nurses, because they have to make a decision so fast that, that decision can either be wrong or right. One bad mistake can destroy their patient lives.
I honesty would not be able to live with my self knowing that I ruined somebody’s life due to my error of judgment. I guess that why god made us some doctors and other ordinary people. The well the integrity that it takes for a doctor is unspoken of.
For instance, my younger sister surgeon doctor Reing, safe my sister life by making a quick decision to operate on her, because due to the sever ness of the scoliosis, the lungs would be crushed together.

Vincent Mosco, ch.2, “Myth and Cyberspace:
I think that the link between myth and cyberspace are kind of predictable because you really aren’t supposed to believe everything you see on the internet. And most people put stuff that are myths on their to attract people. And also how the internet is becoming such a big thing in most people life’s and how they believe what thy read and stuff like that is amazing. Also how such simple thing could be made into a myth and how technology has a impost on our economic and social life. Also how TV and other news sources dominate the discussing it’s hard for others to perspectives to be heard. But I thinks some myths helped us like electricity that some good things about myths. Also I think that people should look at what they read and if they believe it then we should let them believe what they want to believe. But what is coming through our television should be correct because you should don’t want to hear false information at least I don’t want to.
Ideology
The unifying system of beliefs, attitudes, and values expressed in the superstructure of a culture. The body of thought and ideas that guides a society and perpetuates the status quo of the bourgeoisie.
